I mean that parking garage level is empty... Also I love that car. I’ve driven one, its great, I love em. Bonus mint Volvo 240

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Smashing the gas from a slow creep is like getting a stiff push on a swing set by a sumo wrestler, or your favs linebacker. “Well I don’t see what the big deal i-FUUUU...” Just as content to sit in the backseat and be driven.

Bonus Mint Volvo 240. The paint, bumpers and trim are absolutely pristine.

Kinja'd!!!

Yet it has NY plates. Recent registration? I enjoy counting the number of 240’s I see in a day in my historically lib’ral college town, of all various quality. During the 90’s/ early 00’s it could be up to a dozen and I’ve probably driven as many though highschool and college. Just last summer I done saw both Bertone styled 262c and 780’s! Ithaca has more advanced degree holders than any other city in America so in that silly stereotypical way it kinda makes sense.

I have another theory. There are also many hills with jagged shale gorges between them so before Subaru’s took over, people were content to at least survive flying off cliffs in adverse weather.

Seeing one so fresh is indeed a treat and encourages lots of questions. It is owned by a Ithaca college student from the stickers; is he/she an enthusiast who kept it awesome? Did they have an awesome parent who let their (other) baby go or maybe a cool neighbor?

Happy to document the rather unique car lovers in this relatively car resentful pocket of America.

If it’s in a place where it doesn’t bother anyone, I say NBD.

I guess it’s passable, but I’d be pretty annoyed.

I once had to go to a hospital for a day, and the parking garage inside levels were filled. I go to the top, and there’s a double parked BMW in the only shady corner of the whole garage. Seriously?

I don’t double park for a reason, it’s just dick. Might be pretty rare that a garage fills up, but in the off chance it does, I don’t want to be the asshole who ruins it for someone else just trying to get their day over with.

That Rs7 looks great. Since the garage was empty and that thing is sexy as fuck I'm fine with the parking.

If it has the special metal flake paint and it’s in a far corner of the lot then it’s totally acceptable.

This doesn’t really bother me. Those end spots suck because you can’t cut the wheel to turn the car out. You have to back straight out and pull forward away. And you can't back straight out in most garages I’ve seen b/c there's a column or some other obstacle in your way.

esssactly OR you have to awkwadly back into the spot while nealy scraping some concrete feature near the wall, and then you still have to come straight out and away, which is why I give it a pass.

there are some interesting bits if you look at the data in there.

for instance...

look at the top three cities in the DC area (sorry potomac is in MD not MA), a bunch of professional degrees, but the professional degrees outweigh the doctorates. considerably i’d venture a guess these are all of the JDs that are at least tangentially related to govt work.

look at princeton, far and away the highest number of doctorates, but no significant local medical center or govt center or business center. there is a huge university with probably 10-15 nobel prize winners. academics all the way.

the boston area cities, lots of hospitals and lots of universities = lots of doctorates AND professional degrees.

the california cities? palo alto has way more doctorates than cupertino, but cupertino has more masters degrees than anywhere in the country. palo alto = stanford, cupertino = apple, other tech, and tech-related business, which means a bunch of mbas i’m guessing.

anyway...
